GDPR 25th May 2018.

What is GDPR?

The law is a replacement for the 1995 Data Protection Directive, which has until now set the minimum standards for processing data in the EU. GDPR will significantly strengthen a number of rights: individuals will find themselves with more power to demand companies reveal or delete the personal data they hold; regulators will be able to work in concert across the EU for the first time, rather than having to launch separate actions in each jurisdiction; and their enforcement actions will have real teeth, with the maximum fine now reaching the higher of €20m (£17.5m) or 4% of the company’s global turnover.

As many of you will be aware, the school has recently been given the news from the local council that Cymer Afan Comprehensive is under consultation for closure. This has come as a huge shock to anyone and everyone involved with, not only the school, but the federation and valley as a whole. The full proposed plans can be found through the following council link below.

The consultation process will run from November 8th 2017 to February 14th 2018, after which the evidence will be assessed and an outcome is likely sometime in March 2018. We feel that it is imperative that we explore every possible avenue in order to keep the school, federation and valley alive and we extend our sincerest gratitude to all the members of the community that have come out in support of the federation since news of this proposal broke. Please check back regularly for updates on the situation and keep yourself apprised of future developments. Should you wish for any further information please contact the school though one of the designate channels found on the homepage.

Food and Nutrition Practical Exam

For all the pupils that took the option of Food and Nutrition, yesterday mark the day of their practical examination.

Each pupil had to research food intolerances and allergies and then select 3 dishes plus accompaniments that were suitable for their chosen food intolerance/allergy. The pupils made every element of each dish from scratch by themselves including bread (leavened and unleavened), pasta, noodles, etc.

I think you will agree from the photos taken of the pupils’ hard work, that they have really out done themselves and shown what a talented group of pupils we have.

Congratulations to everyone involved and a big thank you to Mrs. Philips and Mrs. Poulton-Rogers who support the children throughout the day.
